President’s Welcome

Welcome,

I am pleased to bring you greetings from the Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Inc., an organization of 79 extraordinary professional women committed to volunteer service in the Houston area for 38 years.   We are proud to be one of 283 chapters across 41 states, including the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas who make up The Links, Incorporated, an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946, consisting of 15,000 professional women of color committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

Members of The Missouri City (TX) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, are a group of phenomenal women who are business and civic leaders, judges, educators, entrepreneurs, doctors, and dentists, who, together in friendship, dedicate their time, talent, and resources to help strengthen our Houston area communities.

Missouri City (TX) members contributed 6,600 hours of community service during the 2016-2017 program year, which included:  hosting youth for a performance by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, supporting The Ensemble Theatre’s Theatre’s Young Performing Arts Program, encouraging healthy lifestyles among young girls and families, building self-esteem and serving as mentors to young girls, partnering with Colgate to provide dental screenings to young children from Yellowstone, Lawson and CORE Academies, supporting Plant it Forward refugee farmers from the Congo, providing clothing and medical needs to an orphanage in Haiti, helping to Get Out the Vote during voter registration drives, providing Thanksgiving dinners to seniors and families at Cuney Homes, assisting students from Mickey Leland College Preparatory and E-STEM Academy prepare for college through college readiness workshops and campus tours at Texas Southern University, Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University, and participating in the Sisters Network Stop the Silence 2017 5k Walk/Run, to name a few.

In addition, through personal contributions and fundraising efforts, the Missouri City (TX) Links presented 2017 scholarships to four students, two from E-STEM Academy and two from Mickey Leland College Preparatory to help them pursue their educational goals.

We are proud to have received several awards recognizing our service to the Houston area community.  We are planning for an even greater year of service during our 2017-2018 program year.  We hope you can devote time and/or resources to support our programs and join us as we strive to make a positive difference.

We are grateful to our families, friends, corporate and community partners who continue to support our efforts and help us aid in the progress of our Houston area neighbourhoods and the global community.
