The Missouri City (TX) Chapter is proud to announce that two of our charter members, Jerelyn Mathis Gooden and Delores Tarver Smith obtained the honor of Platinum Member status at the 39th National Assembly of the Links Incorporated held at the Gaylord Resort in National Harbor Maryland.

Carol Y. Guess has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce. The Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce was established in 1935 as the Houston Citizens Chamber of Commerce, and exists to serve the desires and needs of the Houston, Texas African-American business community.
Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Wanda Mott Russell was honored on January 19, 2014 with the Israel Bonds Award, a prestigious honor for medical professionals. Dr. Mott has practiced as a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist for more than 20 years in the Texas Medical Center. Mott specializes in obstetrical care and management of high-risk pregnancies and obstetrical complications. In recognition of her personal and professional accomplishments, Dr. Mott has been the recipient of numerous awards, appointments and listings.
United States District Judge Vanessa D. Gilmore has penned another novel entitled, “Lynn’s Angels: The True Story of E. Lynn Harris and the Women Who Loved Him.” The book centers around a remarkable story of more than 30 years of friendship between the late author E. Lynn Harris and five women who comprised the family that Harris affectionately referred to as Lynn’s Angels. Through a series of personal accounts, letters and pictures the book reveals a personal side of the famed author that the public didn’t know. Dr. Polly Sparks Turner in a monumental move, recently raised a scholarship named in her honor to another level. The scholarship will now be called the Polly Sparks Turner, MPH, Dr. PH Distinguished Endowment Scholarship in Community Health. This is the first Distinguished Scholarship at the University of Texas School of Public Health at the Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Turner’s tireless efforts have had a positive impact on the public health community in Houston.
Congratulations to Roxann Chargois on her recent appointment to the position of Vice Area Director for the Western Area of the Links, Incorporated. Congratulations to Jene´ Guess Cash on her 2011 Houston 40 Under 40 Honor, Don’t underestimate these young business leaders. They aren’t up and comers. They’ve arrived. Many of them started their own companies — 10 years ago. They’ve created hundreds of jobs in Houston — with more to come.
