Missouri City (TX) Umbrella Program
The mission of the Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Umbrella Program “STEM-ULATING Left Brain and Right Brain” is to prepare urban youth to compete in the 21st Century global job market with skills in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. The program has served more than 400 students in the 6th through the 12th grades at the E-Stem Academy in Houston. The program has had a successful five year track record from 2008 – 2013 which has measured the academic achievement, graduation rate, and college enrollment of its participants. Funding for the program was received from the Choice and Links Foundation, Chevron, and NASA.
Participation in the Umbrella Program consists of integrating multiple activities within the following facets:
-Service to Youth (exposure to robotics & engineering , NASA teacher training, College for a Day, etc)
-International Trends and Services (world wide tech careers & distribution of survival kits for Haiti)
-National Trends and Services (focus on cyber-bullying college and scholarship applications)
-The Arts (exposure to fine arts with an emphasis on geometric shapes and mathematical perspectives found in abstract forms)

In addition to partnering with E-STEM Academy, the Missouri City (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated also coordinates STEM-related programs and initiatives with Yellowstone Academy and the Sassy Ladies which focuses on health education for young African American females through the Health and Human Services facet.
